NEW WALLS
An Exploration Of Home
photography book 2020
You don’t carry much luggage. It hinders you from moving. You rely on short-term needs, coming in handy for that ongoing transitional situation of yours. Ongoing ever since you had to went back to take care of Alya and Raf.
With you a little bubble filled with a handful of artefacts, routines and unswerved principles. Nondescript, unimpressive, but yet to extend undreamt further through space and time and various lives. Your creation, your sheltered harbour, your link to all.
Every time I visit you, I end up at a new address. Another process of adjusting to something new. But all those places you happened to settle for a while, have been consistantly arranged in that kind of same improvised, erratic way. A certain way representing a part you. Something predictable to it, in contrast to any uncertainty coming from the outside. Something which is preserving a familiar feeling - a piece of home.
Still that pale pink light shines through your curtains. The red bottle-opener lies usually next to a kitchen window. And as always, Holy Mary's gaze watches every room.
It really does not matter what place, I can always see your order of things. I know where everything lies and where you store the candy. I can hear the sound of the chores in the morning and I sense your constant restless beat, roaring like a running engine pulling over just to wipe the windshield clear again, ready to get back.
I love it to witness a revived version of that refuge I was once given by you and is now for them to experience. It is fascinating to explore your new world from an observer role although nothing in here is in truth strange to me. In fact everything is familiar.
Just new walls.
